September 3, 2008 All-Capital Athletic Conference hitters Anne Lutkenhaus (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) and Kelley Hueber (Grapevine, Texas/Grapevine) each scored 15 kills to lead the University of Mary Washington volleyball team to a 3-2 win over Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday night in Ashland. The Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season; set scores were 25-16, 14-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-6. •more

August 31, 2008 Sophomore forward T.L. Tutor (Islesboro, Me./Gould Academy) scored the game's only goal in the 60th minute to give the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Gettysburg College in the final game of the UMW Soccer Classic on Sunday. •more

August 31, 2008 Senior Hannah Pearson (Annandale, Va. W.T. Woodson) scored her second goal in as many games with 30 minutes remaining in the second half to lead the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over host Susquehanna University in the Susquehanna Kickoff Classic Tournament on Sunday. Pearson, along with freshmen Bridget Dooley (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) and Marianne Dubinsky (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) were named to the all-tournament team. •more

August 29, 2008 The University of Mary Washington volleyball team opened the 2008 season on Friday evening by splitting a pair of matches at the Eastern Mennonite University Invitational in Harrisonburg. UMW defeated Guilford College in three sets, 25-13, 25-18, 25-12, before falling to Frostburg State University in three sets, 25-14, 25-17, 25-15. •more
August 27, 2008 The University of Mary Washington men's cross country team has been ranked third in the South/Southeast Region, and the UMW women have been ranked seventh in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's preseason poll, released today.

August 3, 2008 Recent University of Mary Washington graduate Caitlin Erickson (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair) is featured in the August 4 issue of Sports Illustrated magazine in the "Faces in the Crowd" segment. Erickson, the all-time leading women's lacrosse scorer in school history, led the nation in assists per game and points per game this season, breaking the NCAA Division III record for points per game this season with 7.94 PPG. Erickson is the second UMW athlete to be featured in Sports Illustrated, following field hockey great Jessica Morris, who appeared in the magazine on December 24, 2001. •more
July 18, 2008 The University of Mary Washington Athletic Hall of Fame will induct four new members as the 12th induction class on October 24, 2008, as part of the school’s Homecoming celebration. Former swimming All-Americans Eliza Barcus Brown (’96) and Chris Rice (’98) and multisport standouts Eliza Huber Scott (’96) and Jennifer Wilson Buck (‘94) comprise this year’s class. •more
June 6, 2008 The University of Mary Washington athletic department finished first among all NCAA Division II and III schools in Virginia in winning percentage in 2007-08, claiming the Virginia Sports Information Directors All-Sports Award. The Eagles, with a cumulative record of .719 (217-84-3), edged Christopher Newport (.714) and Washington & Lee University (.684). Virginia Wesleyan was fourth, followed by Lynchburg College. •more
