Men's Soccer Head Coach Roy Gordon

One of the winningest coaches in NCAA Soccer history, Mary Washington's Roy Gordon has led the Eagles for 29 years, developing the UMW program into one of the most sucessful at any level of collegiate soccer. A seven-time Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Gordon has also been selected asNSCAA Regional Coach of the Year five times, and as Virginia State College Division Coach of the Year on four occasions.
Along the way, Gordon's teams have achieved unparalleled success, with a 377-230-46 career record, including an impressive 331-180-42 mark since starting the program at UMW in 1977. Since the Eagles made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1985, their cumulative record has been 283-109-30, for an outstanding .706 winning percentage. UMW has advanced to nine NCAA Tournaments since 1985, winning eight CAC titles during that time.
One of the most respected soccer coaches in the nation, Gordon continues to be very active on the national soccer scene. Gordon served as the national convention program coordinator for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for six years before being elected to the executive committee. In 1999, he became the fiftieth president of the 20,000 member NSCAA. He continues to be active with the NSCAA, working with the national convention organizing committee. He served as the CAC men's soccer chairman from the league's inception in 1991 until 2000. Gordon has also served terms on the NSCAA South Region and National Rankings Committees, and now serves on the NCAA South Region Advisory Committee.
The associate athletic director at UMW, Gordon also serves as a professor in the department of health and physical education. He and his wife Terrie live in Fredericksburg.
