A new chapter in the history of UMW school spirit opened when the Pep Band was established in December 2012, performing at home basketball games during the 2012-2013 season. With over 20 members, the Pep Band provides spirited music and enthusiasm at home basketball games and other school events. The Pep Band also conducted recruiting events with area high school students and added a new dimension to the atmosphere in the Anderson Center during their inaugural season of performances.
It is the goal of The Pep Band to have a tangible impact on campus culture, school spirit, student engagement, and program awareness.
The Pep Band is coordinated through the joint efforts of the Athletics Department and Music Department. The Pep Band is rehearsed and led by faculty director, Jim Ford, and utilizes students for leadership positions within the group.
The instrumentation for the pep band includes traditional wind instruments, rhythm instruments (Electric Bass, Keyboard, & Drum Set), and is supplemented by a percussion section (drum line).
Membership is open to all UMW students with appropriate music skill, school spirit, and enthusiasm. See the “Auditions” page for more information on becoming a member of the Pep Band.
