UMW's Parker Places 12th in 100 Breast at NCAA Championships
HOUSTON, TX - University of Mary Washington senior Dale Parker finished 12th in the 100 yard breaststroke on Friday at the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming National Championships, hosted by the University of Houston. Parker, who was seeded ninth after the morning prelims, swam a time of 57.39 in Friday night's final. With his top-16 finish, Parker repeats for the third straight year as an All-American in the event.

UMW Women's Swimming Places 12th at NCAA Championships; Seven Named All-America
HOUSTON, TX - The University of Mary Washington women's swim team finished in 12th place overall, their highest finish in 12 years under head coach Matt Kinney, at the NCAA Division III Championships in Houston, Texas this weekend. On Saturday, UMW's Lorena de la Garza finished seventh in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.39. Maureen Greenlee finished 13th in the 100 freestyle at 52.55. The 400 freestyle relay capped the championship by finishing in 13th place with a CAC record time of 3:32.72. That relay of Amy Carlson, Michelle Sawyer, Kristen LaCoe, and Greenlee, all earned All-America honors during the championship, as did de la Garza, Patricia Dilger, and Mallory Cruise. The Eagles set eight school and conference records during the event.

UMW Women's Swimming Poised For More Success at NCAA Championships
HOUSTON, TX - The University of Mary Washington women's swim team continued to impress at the NCAA Division III national championships on Friday, as the Eagles' 800 yard freestyle relay finished in 13th place, and senior Amy Carlson finished fourth in the 100 yard butterfly. The 200 medley realy was disqualified in the finals after qualifying seventh in the morning prelims. The 800 relay finished with a time of 7:48.77, eclipsing the school and CAC record by more than five seconds. Carlson placed fourth in the 100 fly with a time of 56.33 after qualifying fifth in the morning.
UMW will continue at the championships on Saturday.

UMW Women's Swimming in Ninth Place After Day One at NCAA Championships
HOUSTON, TX - The University of Mary Washington women's swim team, sending seven athletes to the NCAA Championships, got off to a strong start at the meet on Thursday morning, and continued that success as both the 200 yard freestyle relay and the 400 yard medley relay broke school and conference records to return to the evening finals, and bettered those times to break their morning records in the evening finals.
The 200 free relay, consisting of Kristen LaCoe, Michelle Sawyer, Amy Carlson, and Maureen Greenlee, qualified eleventh in the morning, setting a record time of 1:37.22. They bettered their time to 1:36.45 in the evening finals. The 400 medley relay finished eighth in qualifying with a time of 3:57.23, and bettered that time to 3:57.15 in the evening finals. That relay consisted of Mallory Cruise, Patricia Dilger, Carlson, and Greenlee.
The Eagles are in ninth place with 40 points following the first day's events. The championships will continue on Friday morning.

UMW Swimming Sending Seven Women, One Man to NCAA Championships
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The University of Mary Washington swimming teams, fresh off their Capital Athletic Conference championships, will send seven women and one man swimmer to the NCAA Championships in Houston, TX next month. The women's championships will be from March 8-10, while the men's championships will be on March 15-17.
On the women's side, seniors Amy Carlson, Maureen Greenlee, and Tricia Dilger; juniors Kristen LaCoe and Lorena de la Garza; sophomore Mallory Cruise; and freshman Michelle Sawyer will all compete at the championships. The 200 medley relay is seeded ninth, the 400 freestyle relay is seeded 12th, the 400 medley relay is seeded 12th, and the 200 freestyle relay is seeded 13th. UMW will also compete in the 800 free relay.
Individually, Carlson will compete in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly (where she is seeded fifth), and the 100 freestyle; Greenlee will swim the 50 and 100 yard freestyle; Dilger will swim the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM; de la Garza will swim the 100 and 200 yard butterfly; and Sawyer will compete in the 200 IM.
On the men's side, senior Dale Parker will compete in the championships. The men's seedings and events will be announced next week.

Eagle Swimmers Fly High at Seahawk Invitational
ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swim teams competed on a limited basis at the Seahawk invitational at St. Mary's College on Saturday, and came away with two conference records and improvement in three events.
The women's 200 medley relay, consisting of Mallory Cruise, Tricia Dilger, Amy Carlson, and Maureen Greenlee, broke the CAC record with a very strong NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:48.01. That time would have finished in the top eight in last year's NCAA Championships. Individually, freshman Laura Graesser bested her lifetime best in the 400 IM with a time of 4:39.81, and senior Tricia Dilger broke the CAC record by a second and a half with a time of 2:24.15, strengthening her NCAA provisional cut.
The Eagles await their lot at this year's NCAA Championships, and will find out on Thursday how many swimmers will attend this year's event in Houston, Texas on March 15-17.

UMW Men, Women Claim 2007 CAC Swimming Championships

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swim teams continued their dominance at the Capital Athletic Conference championships, as the women's team won its 17th consecutive conference title, and the men won for the 13th time overall and 5th consecutive season with convincing wins this weekend.
Senior Dale Parker won the 2007 Capital Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Year, freshman Laura Graesser won the women's Rookie of the Year, and head coach Matt Kinney won the women's CAC Coach of the Year.
Abby Koch won the 1650 freestyle on Sunday evening with a time of 18:02.33. Amy Carlson swam an NCAA provisional time finishing second in the 200 backstroke at 2:07.55, Luke Moss won the men's 200 backstroke at 1:55.71, Maureen Greenlee broke the meet record while winning the 100 freestyle at 52.79, Tricia Dilger set a new meet record in the 200 yard breatstroke, winning at 2:25.74, and she and Mikey Pride provisionally qualified for NCAA nationals.
Parker won the 200 breaststroke by seven seconds, winning with a time of 2:10.40. Lorena de la Garza won the 200 butterfly with an NCAA provisional time of 2:07.95, and the women's 400 freestyle relay took first place, qualifying provisionally for NCAAs with a time of 3:34.62.

UMW Swimming on Top After Day Two of CAC Championships
ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swim teams continued to shine at the Capital Athletic Conference swimming championships on Saturday.
Women's winners included the 200 yard meldey relay (Amy Carlson, Tricia Dilger, Michelle Sawyer, Maureen Greenlee) with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:48.89; Laura Graesser in the 400 IM (1:35.97); Amy Carlson in the 100 butterfly with an NCAA automatic time of 56.49, which is also a new CAC championship and conference record; Abby Koch in the 200 freestyle (1:57.27); Tricia Dilger in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.55); and the 800 free relay (Graesser, Lorena de la Garza, Sarah Wilcox, and Abby Koch) with a new CAC and championship record time of 7:53.92.
For the men, winners included the 200 medley relay (Luke Moss, Dale Parker, Kennard Smith, Cameron Rice) at 1:35.97; Dale Parker in the 100 breaststroke (57.17), which is a new meet record and a provisional qualifying time for NCAA championships; and the 800 free relay (Peter Sturke, Rice, Justin Anderson, and Moss) at 7:12.16.
The championships will conclude on Sunday.

UMW Swimming on Top After Day One of CAC Championships

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swim teams opened competition at the 2007 Capital Athletic Conference championships on Friday at St. Mary's College, and both stand in first place after the first day's events.
The women's 200 yard freestyle relay, consisting of Amy Carlson, Michelle Sawyer, Kirsten LaCoe, and Maureen Grrenlee, took first place by breaking the CAC conference and championship meet record with a time of 1:37.50, which is a provisional NCAA Championship qualifying time.
UMW finished 1-2-3 in the women's 500 freestyle, with Abby Koch taking first place at 5:11.06, Bridget Travers placing second at 5:16.06, and Lorena de la Garza finishing third at 5:17.78. Both Tricia Dilger and Michelle Sawyer qualified provisionally in the 200 IM, placing second and third with times of 2:10.71 and 2:10.99. Luke Moss finished first in the 200 IM, at 1:58.03. In the 50 freestyle, UMW's Maureen Greenlee (24.12) tied the CAC record and broke the championship record and qualified provisionally for nationals, while Dale Parker took first on the men's side with a time of 21.34. The Eagle women finished 1-3-4 in their 50 race.
Both the men's and women's 400 medley relay teams finished first, with the women breaking the CAC and championship record by two seconds, at 3:57.91. That relay, which qualified provisionally for NCAAs, included Mallory Cruise, Dilger, Carlson, and Greenlee. The men took first at 3:33.67, and included Moss, Parker, Jason McCormack, and Justin Anderson.
The championships will continue on Saturday, with preliminaries at 10 am and the finals at 6 pm.

UMW Swimming Sweeps Marymount in Saturday CAC Dual Meet
ARLINGTON, VA - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams swept a dual meet from Marymount University on Saturday to remain undefeated in conferece meets. The men won, 96-80, and the women won, 106-67.
Winners for the Eagle men included Kennard Smith in the 50 yard freestyle, Luke Moss in the 100 IM and the 50 backstroke, Dale Parker in the 50 yard butterfly and the 50 yard breaststroke, Justin Anderson in the 100 freestyle, and the freestyle and medley relays.
The Eagle women got victories from the freestyle and medley relays, Maureen Greenlee in the 50 freestyle, Michelle Sawyer in the 100 IM and 100 freestyle, Amy Carlson in the 50 butterfly, Mallory Cruise in the 50 backstroke, Mikey Pride in the 50 breaststroke, and Sarah Wilcox in the 500 freestyle.
UMW will be back in action on February 9-11 at the 2007 Capital Athletic Conference Championships at St. Mary's College in Maryland.

UMW Swimming Falls at Division One George Mason
FAIRFAX, VA - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams were defeated at George Mason University on Friday evening in Fairfax, with the men losing, 143-80, and the women falling, 128-85. UMW's men fall to 5-3 on the season, and the women fall to 6-2.
The women saw three victories, as Kirsten LaCoe finished first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.31 and Maureen Greenlee took first in the 100 yard freestyle at 53.66. The women's freestyle relay took first with a time of 1:39.60. Members of that relay included Amy Carlson, LaCoe, Michelle Sawyer, and Greenlee.
The men also had three wins, with Kennard Smith winning the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.93, and senior Dale Parker winning the 100 yard freestyle at 49.15 and also winning the 100 yard breaststroke at 59.63.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Marymount University at 2 pm.

UMW Swimming Sweeps Gettysburg College on Senior Day

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams defeated Gettysburg College in a dual meet on Saturday, as the Eagles celebrated Senior Day before a packed house at Goolrick Natatorium. The UMW women won, 151-109, in the sixteen event meet, while the UMW men won, 157-103.
Men's winners included the 200 yard medley relay (consisting of Luke Moss, Dale Parker, Jason McCormack, and Cameron Rice) in a time of 1:39.69, Justin Anderson in the 1000 freestyle (10:32.17), Cameron Rice in the 200 freestyle (1:51.22); and Luke Moss in the 100 backstroke (55.76), 200 backstroke (1:59.16), and the 400 IM (4:20.97). Other winners included Dale Parker in the 50 free (21.88) and 100 free (49.44); Drew Taccone in the 100 breastsroke (1:03.45) and 200 breast (1:59.15); McCormack in the 100 butterfly (55.93), and the 200 yard freestyle relay (Parker, Rice, Anderson, Kennard Smith) at 1:29.25.
Women's winners included the 200 yard medley relay (consisting of Mallory Cruise, Tricia Dilger, Amy Carlson, and Kirsten LaCoe) at 1:51.24; Amy Carlson in the 100 backstroke (1:01.52), Maureen Greenlee in the 50 free (24.64) and the 100 free (55.75); Dilger in the 100 breast (1:08.67) and the 200 breast (NCAA provisional time of 2:27.25); Laura Graesser in the 400 IM (4:46.27); and the 200 free relay at 1:39.16.

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams remained unbeaten in Capital Athletic Conference on Saturday, as both teams won at St. Mary's College. The men won, 104-81, and the women won, 122-75.
Men's winners included Justin Anderson (200 free and 500 free), Dale Parker (50 free and 100 free), Luke Moss (200 IM and 200 backstroke), Peter Sturke (200 fly), Drew Taccone (200 breast), and the 400 free relay.

CollegeSwimming.com Names Carlson National Swimmer of the Week

Somers, WI - National qualifying times were splashed about the country this weekend and are reflected in this weeks National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week (NCSW) honors. Jenny Bradford (University of Kentucky) and Matt Grevers (Northwestern University) claimed NCSW honors for Division I. Sarah Wollenhaupt (University of North Dakota) and Tim Fuller (UC San Diego) earned Division II NCSW honors. While Amy Carlson (University of Mary Washington) and Eric Dunn (Kenyon College) nabbed Division III NCSW honors. The six were selected based on their performances November 13-November 19, 2006 by a panel of collegiate coaches and nominated by coaches, sports information directors, conference representatives and CollegeSwimming.com staffers.
Mary Washington women's swimming teams competed in the University of Maryland Terrapin Invitational. Over the course of the weekend Carlson made 6 NCAA cuts and broke one individual and two relay conference and school records swimming all lifetime bests. Her 200 freestyle relay (1:37.97) broke both a school and conference record. As the lead off of the 200 Medley Relay she swam the fastest backstroke leg in school history (27.38) and anchored she the 400 freestyle relay (3:33.56), both got "B" cuts. Individually she got a NCAA "A" cut, school and conference record in the 100 butterfly (56.98) and a “B” cut in the 50 freestyle (24.46). On the 400 Medley Relay she was able to grab a "B" for the 100 backstroke (59.75).

UMW Swimming Closes Terrapin Invitational With a Bang
COLLEGE PARK, MD - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams closed the three-day University of Maryland Terrapin Invitational with a bang on Saturday. For the men, senior Luke Moss (Fredericksburg, VA/Fredericksburg Academy) finished in tenth place in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:54.35, breaking the school reecord and qualifying provisionally for the NCAA Championships. Maureen Greenlee swam the 100 freestyle at 53.08, and NCAA qualifying cut. The women's 400 yard freestyle relay had an NCAA qualifying time of 3:33.5, which also broke the CAC and school records. That relay included Greenlee, Kristen LaCoe, Michelle Sawyer and Amy Carlson.
The teams will return to action on January 13 at St. Mary's College at 1 pm.

UMW Swimming Breaks More Records at Terrapin Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, MD - The University of Mary Washington men's and swimming teams continued to shine as the only Division III team in attendance at the University of Maryland Terrapin Invitational on Friday, with one top five finish, one NCAA automatic cut, and two CAC records.
Senior Amy Carlson (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) continued to shine, with an automatic cut for the NCAA Championships as well as a new school and conference record in the 100 butterfly, with a time of 56.98, and placed 11th in the event. She was also the leadoff leg of the NCAA provisional qualifying 200 medley relay, joining Tricia Dilger, Michelle Sawyer, and Maureen Greenlee, with a time of 1:48.65.
For the men, senior Dale Parker (Fredericksburg, VA/Massaponax) finished fourth in the 100 yard breaststroke, with a time of 56.89, which is also a new CAC record. Senior Luke Moss (Fredericksburg, VA/Fredericksburg Academy) set a lifetime best in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.62.

UMW Swimming Completes First Day at Terrapin Invitational
COLLEGE PARK, MD - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams had an eventful day at the primarily-Division One Terrapin Invitational on Thursday. The men are in ninth place among 12 schools, and the women are in 16th place among 16 schools.
Highlights weren't lost on the women, however, as the 200 yard freestyle relayqualified provisonally for the NCAA Championships and borke the school and conference record with a time of 1:37.97. That relay included Maureen Greenlee, Kristen LaCoe, Michelle Sawyer, and Amy Carlson. Greenlee and Carlson both qualified provisonally for nationals in the 50 freestyle in the morning session, and Carlson qualified provisionally in the 100 backstroke leading off the 400 medley relay in the evening swim.
For the men, the 200 freestyle relay finished eleventh with a time of 1:26.70, and included Dale Parker, Cameron Rice, Justin Anderson, and Kennard Smith. Parker also finished 21st in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.60.
Both teams will continue at the event on Friday morning.

UMW Swimming Sweeps Catholic in CAC Dual Meet

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington swept a dual meet from Catholic University on Saturday in a dual meet at Goolrick Gymnasium. The Eagle women won, 132-61, to improve to 4-1, while the Eagle men improved to 3-2 on the year with a 121-76 win.
For the women, winners included the 400 yard medley relay (4:05.43), Abby Koch in the 1000 freestyle (11:18.58), Amy Carlson in the 200 freestyle (2:01.43) and the 200 backstroke (2:12.72), Kristen LaCoe and Michelle Sawyer in the 50 freestyle (25.09), Tricia Dilger in the 200 IM (2:15.76), Erin McCracken in the 200 butterfly (2:16.67), Sarah Wilcox in the 100 freestyle (56.13), Bridget Travers in the 500 freestyle (5:22.67), Ally Kight in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.76), and the 400 freestyle relay team (3:40.99).
The men's winners included Justin Anderson in the 1000 freestyle (10:27.86), Luke Moss in the 200 freestyle (1:50.78) and the 200 butterfly (2:00.14), Dale Parker in the 50 freestyle (21.80), Jason Philpott in the 200 IM (2:06.01) and the 200 backstroke (2:07.51), Cameron Rice in the 100 freestyle (49.96), and the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:20.15).

UMW Swimming Splits With Washington & Lee
LEXINGTON, VA - The University of Mary Washington women and the Washington & Lee University men won the two schools' dual meet on Saturday in Lexington. The women's score was UMW 171, W&L 90, and the men's score was W&L 172, UMW 69. The Eagle women improve to 3-1 on the season, while the men fall to 2-2.
For the women, winners included the 200 medley relay (Mallory Cruise, Tricia Dilger, Amy Carlson, Maureen Greenlee), who set a pool record with a time of 1:52.86; Michelle Sawyer, who won both the 200 butterfly (2:14.35) and the 200 IM (2:13.32); Bridget Travers in the 1000 freestyle (11:28.91); Mikey Pride in the 200 breaststroke (1:10.54); Kristen LaCoe in the 50 freestyle (25.22), Greenlee in the 100 freestyle (54.46); Dilger in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.62); Abby Koch in the 500 freestyle (5:30.22); Carlson in the 100 butterfly (59.54), which was a new pool record, and the 200 freestyle relay, which also set a school record with a time of 1:41.71. Members of that relay were Greenlee, Sarah Wilcox, Beth Aldrich, and LaCoe.
Winners for the men included Dale Parker in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.05) and Jason Philpott in the 200 IM (2:06.38).

UMW Swimming Sweeps Gallaudet, Salisbury
WASHINGTON, DC - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swim teams swept Capital Athletic Conference foes Gallaudet University and Salisbury University on Saturday at Gallaudet. For the men, UMW defeated Gallaudet, 83-12, and Salisbury, 66-27. The Eagle womn beat Gallaudet 86-9, and Salisbury, 76-19.
For the men, winners included Justin Anderson, who won the 1000 freestyle (10:32.91) and the 100 freestyle (51.02), and was part of the winning 200 free relay (1:30.67). Other winners included Dale Parker in the 200 freestyle, the 200 medley relay, Drew Taccone in the 200 IM, Luke Moss in the 500 freestyle, Colin Smith in the 100 breaststroke, and Jason McCormack in the 100 backstroke.
The women were led by Amy Carlson, who won the 100 backstroke (1:02.12) and was part of both the winning 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays. Other winners included Sarah Lindberg in the 1000 freestyle, Lindsey McClelland in the 200 freestyle, Maureen Greenlee in the 50 freestyle, Michelle Sawyer in the 100 butterfly, Abby Koch in the 100 freestyle, Aly Kight in the 500 freestyle, and Mikey Pride in the 100 breaststroke.
The Eagles will swim at Washington & Lee University on November 4 at 2 pm.

UMW Swimming Falls at William & Mary
WILLIAMSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swim teams fell at Division One College of William & Mary on Saturday in the Eagles' first dual meet of the year. The men fell, 127-71, and the women fell, 126-76.
Highlights included the women's 50 freestyle, in which Maureen Greenlee finished second (25.30), Kristen LaCoe third (25.66), and Amy Carlson fourth (25.74). Tricia Dilger placed third in the 200 yard breaststroke, at 2:30.49. For the men, Luke Moss was third in both the 200 backstroke (2:00.45) and the 200 IM (2:05.49).

UMW Swimming Opens at Potomac Valley Relays
WASHINGTON, DC - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swim teams, of whom great things are expected in 2006-07, opened the year at the Division One Potomac Valley Relays hosted by American University on Friday evening. The Eagle men took first place in the 3x100 yard breaststroke relay, with Dale Parker, Drew Taccone, ande Kennard Smith finishing with a time of 3:04.27. Other top finishes for the men included the 4x100 individual medley relay taking second place, and the 200 free relay and the 200 medley relay finishing in third place.
The Eagle women turned in several second place finishes, including the 4x100 IM relay and the 3x100 butterfly relay. The 200 medley relay, the 200 free relay, and the 3x100 backstroke relay all took third place.

Dilger, Craddock Named CSCAA Academic All-Americans
ALLENDALE, MI - University of Mary Washington junior Patricia Dilger and senior Brian Craddock have been named as Academic All-Americans by the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America. Dilger, who won six All-America awards at the 2006 NCAA Division III Swimming Championships, earned first team honors after posting a 3.82 GPA in the spring semester. Craddock, who qualified provisionally for the NCAA Championships, earned honorable mention honors after carrying a 3.56 cumulative GPA. To be eligible for academic All-America status, they must qualify for the NCAA Championships, and carry at least a 3.5 GPA for the current semester, year, or cumulative for their collegiate career.
