UMW Track & Field Competes at George Mason Championships
SWARTHMORE, PA - The University of Mary Washington sent several athletes to the Swarthmore College Last Chance Meet on Monday. Cristy Falcone finished second in the 3000 meter steeplechase, at 10:54.41, bettering her NCAA provisional cut and setting a new school record in the process. Jen Garrott was fourth in the pole vault, at 10 feet, four inches, and Chia Winchester was 10th in the 800 meters, at 2:23.39. Matt Cash ran the 800 meters in 1:53.03, in 10th place, qualifying provisionally for NCAAs and setting a new school record. Both teams will take one last crack at qualifying for the NCAA Championships on Friday at Lynchburg College.

UMW Track & Field Competes at George Mason Championships
FAIRFAX, VA - The University of Mary Washington track & field teams competed at the George Mason Championships on Saturday. Senior Justin Kirk ran the 5000 meters in 15:52, Matt Cash ran the 1500 meters in 4:13, and Sean O'Neill ran the 800 meters in 1:58. For the Eagle women, Jen Garrott jumped nine feet, six inches in the pole vault, and Chia Winchester ran the 800 meters in 2:25.
The Eagles will return to action in the Swarthmore Invitational on May 14.

UMW's Hambley Named CAC Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year; Soper Named CAC Coach of the Year
ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - University of Mary Washington junior Carly Hambley has been named as the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year, as was voted upon by the league's coaches. UMW head coach Stan Soper was also named CAC Coach of the Year after the Eagles won their 14th consecutive CAC Championship two weekends ago. Hambley won the triple jump and the 400 meter hurdles, and was second in the high jump and long jump at the CAC Championships. Her 400 hurdles time of 1:06.74 was a new CAC championships record. Soper led the Eagles to their 14th straight title by a narrow margin of just four points.

UMW Women Set New Marks at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The University of Mary Washington women's track & field team competed at the Penn Relays on Friday, with the 4x400 meter relay setting a new season best and junior Cristy Falcone setting a school record and qualifying provisionally for NCAA Championships in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
The 4x400 relay, which included Chia Winchester, Carly Hambley, Julia Rothlisberger, and Mae Winchester, ran to a time of 4:10.86, finishing first in their heat. Falcone set a new school mark and qualified provisionally in the steeplechase with a time of 11:14.79.

UMW Women First, Men Third at CAC Track & Field Championships
SALISBURY, MD - The University of Mary Washington track & field teams competed at the Capital Athletic Conference championships on Saturday, with the women taking first place for the 14th consecutive year and the men finishing in third place.
The Eagle women won by just four points over second place Salisbury (200-196) and were paced by junior Carly Hambley, who won the triple jump (34 feet, two inches) and the 400 hurdles (1:06.74). Other winners included Megan Linn in the discus (120 feet, five inches), Jen Garrott in the pole vault (10 feet, seven inches), Mae Winchester in the 100 hurdles (16.18), and Ann Tripp in the 5000 meters (18:40.23). Garrott's pole vault and Hambley 400 hurdles were both CAC Championship records as well.
Winners for the men included Nate Boyarsky in the javelin (182 feet, 10 inches), Justin Kirk in the 3000 steeplechase (10:04.33), Sean O'Neill in the 800 meters (CAC record time of 1:54.72), Frank DeVar in the 5000 meters (15:36.49), and the 4x400 relay (Matt Straub, Matt Cash, Justin German, Sean O'Neill) in a time of 3:25.45.
The Eagles will be represented in the Penn Relays next weekend.

UMW Track & Field Competes at Messiah College Invite
GRANTHAM, PA - The University of Mary Washington track & field teams competed at the Messiah College Invitational on Saturday, with several first place finishes and top results.
Matt Cash won the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.19, Nate Boyarsky finished second in the javelin with a throw of 175 feet, nine inches, and Jason istvan placed second in the hammer throw, with a toss of 140 feet, two inches.
The women saw Jen Garrott win the pole vault, at nine feet, six inches, Cristy Falcone won the 5000 meters at 18:52, and Megan Linn won the discus with a throw of 124 feet, two inches. Linn also placed fourth in the hammer throw (127 feet). Carly Hambley was fourth in the triple jump (34 feet, four inches) and was second in the high jump, at five feet.
Both the men and women will compete in the 2007 Capital Athletic Conference championships nex Saturday in Salisbury, MD at 10 am.

UMW Track & Field Competes at Duke University Invite
DURHAM, NC - The university of Mary Washington track & field teams competed at the Duke University Invitational this weekend, with several top results. For the Eagle women, Ann Tripp ran the 5K in 18:49, and Nina Pfeiffer ran the 5K in 19:29, which were both season bests. Mae Winchester ran the 400 hurdles in 67.44 and Carly Hambley ran them in 67.88.
For the Eagle men, Frank DeVar ran the 5K in 15:25 and Justin Kirk ran the 5K in 15:45. Matt Cash ran 1:57.6 in the 800 meters, and Brent Cavedo ran the 1500 meters in 4:09. Freshman Nate Boyarsky threw the javelin 171 feet.
The Eagles will return to action on April 14 when they visit Messiah College at 10 am.

UMW Track & Field Hosts Battleground Relays

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington track and field teams hosted the annual Battleground Relays this weekend, with several top results. Sophomore Mae Winchester won the 400 hurdles at 1:06.65, and Carly Hambley won the high jump (four feet 11.75 inches), the long jump (14 feet, 8.5 inches), and the triple jump (33 feet, 5.25 inches); Jen Garrot won the pole vault (nine feet, .25 inches); and Megan Linn won the discus (123 feet, 11 inches).
For the men, winners included Justin Kirk in the 3000 steeplechase (10:17.30), the 4x400 relay (3:29.60), the 4x800 meter relay (8:10.40), Justin German in the high jump (six feet), and Nate Boyarsky in the javelin throw (179 feet, one inch).
The Eagles will return to action on April 6-7 when they visit the Duke University Invitational.

UMW Track & Field Competes at Towson Invite
TOWSON, MD - The University of Mary Washington track and field teams competed at the Towson University Invitational on Saturday, with several top results. On the men's side, Brent Cavedo ran the 1500 meters with a time 4:09, Matt Cash finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57, and Nate Boyarski threw the javelin to a distance of 161 feet.
The women saw Megan Linn throw the hammer 132 feet and the discus 121 feet. Cristy Falcone ran the steeplecahse to a school record time of 11:27, Ann tripp ran the 5K in 19:12, and Mae Winchester ran the 400 hurdles in 58 seconds.
The Eagles will host the annual Battleground Relays on Friday at 3 pm and Saturday at 10 am.

UMW Women's Track & Field First at W&L; Men Place 5th
LEXINGTON, VA - The University of Mary Washington women's track and field team opened the 2007 season with a first place finish at the Washington & Lee University Invitational on Saturday. The Eagle men placed fifth.
For the women, Carly Hambley finished first in the high jump (5-2), the long jump (14-4), and triple jump (34 feet). Melissa Presti was first in the discus (118-11), with Megan Linn placing second at 117-7. On the track, Cristy Falcone was third in the 5000 meters at 18:59.
For the Eagle men, Justin German was first in the high jump with a leap of 6-4, Nate Boyarski was second in the javelin at 154-6, Sean O'Neill was third in the 400 meters at 51.91, and Frank DeVar was third in the 5000 meters at 15:43.
Both teams will compete again next weekend at the Towson University Invitational at 10:30 am.

UMW Men's, Women's Indoor Track & Field Competes at Va Tech Last Chance Invitational
BLACKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the Virginia Tech Last Chance meet on Saturday. Julia Rothlisberger finished fifth in the 800 meters, with a time of 2:22. On the men's side, Sean O'Neill placed sixth in the 800, at 1:57.08, with Matt Cash following in seventh at 1:57.29. The Eagles will open the outdoor season on March 17 at Washington & Lee University at 10 am.

UMW Men's, Women's Indoor Track & Field Finishes 4th at Mason Dixon Invitational
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's indoor track & field teams both finished in first place at the Mason Dixon Indoor Invitational hosted by Chrostopher Newport University on Sunday.
The Eagle men were led by Matt Cash, who finished first in the 800 meters at 1:56.84, and the distance medley relay, consisting of Brent Cavello, Moi Yusuf, Tim Jones, and Frank DeVar, who finished first at 11:09. DeVar also placed second in the mile run, at 4:31. Justin German was third in the high jump, finishing with a leap of six feet, 1.75 inches.
The Eagle women received first place finishes from Jen Garrott in the pole vault (10 feet), Cristy Falcone in the mile (5:25), and second place finishes from Megan Linn in the weight throw (41 feet, one inch) and the 4x400 relay (Carly Hambley, Chia Winchester, Julia Rothlisberger, Mae Winchester), at 4:15.
The track teams willr eturn to action this Sunday at the George Mason Invitational at 10 am.

UMW Indoor Track & Field Competes at Ursinus Frank Colden Invitational
COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The University of Mary Washington track & field teams competed at the Frank Colden Invitational on Saturday at Ursinus College. For the men, Sean O'Neill finished third in the 800 meters, at 2:01. In the 400 meters, Matt Straub finished at 53.53 and Justin German finished at 53.55.
For the Eagle women, Julia Rothlisberger took second in the 800 meters at 2:24, and Jen Garrott was third inj the pole vault at 9 feet, 6 inches. The 4x400 relay team took third at 4:18. Members of the relay included Carly Hambley, Chia Winchester, Julia Rothlisberger, and Mai Winchester.
The track teams will return to action on February 18 at the Mason Dixon Invite at Christopher Newport University.

UMW Indoor Track & Field Competes at CNU Invitational
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The University of Mary Washington indoor track & field teams competed at the Christopher Newport University Invitational on Saturday, with several top results.
On the men's side, Matt Cash finished first in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:38, with teammate Mo Yusuf placing third at 2:41. Frank DeVar took second place in the 3000 meters at 8:54, and the men's distance medley relay finished first with a time of 11:10. That relay included Brent Cavedo, Joe Barrett, Justin German and DeVar.
The women saw the distance medley relay finish first (Julia Rothlisberger, Melantie Walter, Chia Winchester, and Kerry Carfagno) with a time of 13:49. Rothlisberger was second in the 1000 meters at 3:11, Megan Linn was third in the weight throw at 38 feet, two inches, and Jen Garrott leapt a season-best nine feet, six inches in the pole vault.

UMW Indoor Track & Field Competes at Father Diamond Invitational at GMU
FAIRFAX, VA - The University of Mary Washington indoor track & field teams sent representatives to the Father Diamond Invitational, hosted by George Mason University on Saturday afternoon.
For the women, Jennifer Garrott leapt nine feet in the pole vault. Julia Rothlisberger finished eighth in the mile, at 5:30, and also placed sixth in the 1000 meters, at 3:11.
The men saw Justin German leap 6-2 in the high jump, Brent Cavedo finish eighth in the mile, at 4:39, and Matt Cash place ninth in the mile (4:40) and also run the 500 meters at 1:09.
The full teams will return to action on January 26 at the Christopher Newport University Invitational.

UMW Indoor Track & Field Opens at CNU Lidlifter
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The University of Mary Washington indoor track and field teams sent individuals to the Christopher Newport University Lidlifter on Sunday, and turned in several top performances. On the women's side, Jen Garrott finished third in the pole vault with a leap of nine feet, Julia Rothlisberger ran the mile in a time of 5:31, and Chia Winchester ran the 800 meters to a time of 2:33. For the men, Justin German leapt six feet, two inches in the pole vault, and Sean O'Neill and Mo Yusuf ran the 800 meters in a time of 2:03.
The Eagles will continue the indoor season after holiday break.
