Hueber Named All-CAC for Second Straight Year
ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - University of Mary Washington sophomore hitter Kelley Hueber (Grapevine, TX) has been named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference second team, as voted on by the league's coaches and announced by the league on Monday. Hueber, who repeats as an all-conference selection for the second straight year, had a .330 hitting percentage this season, with 314 kills and 230 digs. UMW finished with a 12-10 record this season.

UMW Volleyball Falls at Salisbury in CAC Quarterfinals
SALISBURY, MD - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Salisbury University on Tuesday night. Game scores were 30-20, 30-24, and 30-18. The Eagles close the season with a 12-10 record.
For Mary Washington, sophomore Kelley Hueber (Grapevine, TX/Grapevine) scored nine kills and ten digs. Freshman Anne Lutkenhaus added eight kills, and Kathryn Carter scored seven kills. Setter Sam Harper added a team-high 16 digs.

UMW Volleyball Falls at SMC in Five
ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a five game Capital Athletic Conference match at St. Mary's College on Wednesday night to fall to 12-9 overall and the seventh seed in next week's CAC Tournament. Game scores were 30-23, 30-25, 29-31, 15-30, 15-12.
Sophomore Kelley Hueber led Mary Washington with 21 kills, and Anne Lutkenhaus added 20 kills and nine digs. Sam Harper added 15 digs, Lindsey Scott had 52 assists, and Johanna Carpenter scored eight kills for the Eagles. Sarah Tighe turned in 10 kills and three solo blocks.
The Eagles will visit second-seeded Salisbury University in the CAC Tournament quarterfinals next Tuesday evening.

UMW Volleyball Tops Goucher, 3-0
FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team defeated Goucher College, 3-0, on Thursday evening in Capital Athletic Conference action. Game scores were 30-25, 30-17, 30-19. The Eagles improve to 12-8 on the season, while the Gophers fall to 13-12.
For the Eagles, sophomore Kelley Hueber scored eight kills and 12 digs, and freshman Anne Lutkenhaus added nine kills. Kat Carter made four blocks, and Lindsey Scott added 26 assists.
Goucher was led by Margaret Egiziaco's 12 kills and 10 digs and Catie Ditmore's 19 assists and 11 digs. Megan Smith had seven kills and 13 digs, and Sarah Kendall added 10 digs for Goucher.
The Eagles will close the regular season next Wednesday when they visit St. Mary's College of MD at 7 pm.

UMW Volleyball Falls at Catholic
WASHINGTON, DC - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a three-game match at Catholic University on Wednesday night, to fall to 11-7 on the season, and 0-4 in Capital Athletic Conference action. UMW had beaten Catholic in its two previous meetings this season. Game scores were 30-20, 30-23, 30-20.
Kelley Hueber had eight kills and eleven digs and Anne Lutkenhaus had seven kills and eleven digs for UMW. Lindsey Scott had 21 digs, and Sarah Tighe added five blocks. The Eagles will return to action on Friday evening when they visit Randolph-Macon College at 6 pm.

UMW Volleyball Falls to Salisbury in Four Games
FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a four game match to visiting Salisbury University on Wednesday night at Goolrick Gymnasium to fall to 11-7 on the season.
The Eagles won game one, 30-21, sparked by four straight service points by Lindsey Scott to push the Eagles' score to 28. In game two, Salisbury won, 30-28, thanks to a come-from-behind effort that included Jamie Marzocchi's four service points to end the game. The Sea Gulls took tok the third game, 30-20, and the fourth game, 30-21.
Kelley Hueber had 13 kills and 14 digs for UMW, with Lindsey Scott and Kaitlyn Butler adding 13 and eight assists, respectively. Anne Lutkenhaus added 14 digs, and Kat Carter scored eight kills for UMW.
Salisbury was led by Abbey Petrecca's 40 assists and 16 digs and Stacy Krebs' 16 kills and 12 digs. Lucy Rushing added nine kills and five blocks, and Gabby Long had 17 digs for Salisbury.
Mary Washington will return to action on October 11 at Catholic University in another CAC contest at 7 pm.

UMW Volleyball Sweeps Messiah, FDU
>GRANTHAM, PA - The University of Mary Washington swept Messiah College and Fairleigh Dickinson University on Saturday in a tri match at Messiah. The Eagles improve to 11-6 on the season.
In the first match, UMW topped Messiah in four games. Scores were 30-24, 26-30, 30-23, 30-27. In that match, Kelley Hueber had 16 kills, Anne Lutkenhaus added 11 kills, and Kat Carter had nine kills. Sam Harper added 13 digs, and Sarah Tighe had ten blocks for UMW.
In the second match, UMW topped FDU, 25-30, 30-20, 30-14, 23-30, 15-9. Hueber had twelve digs, 18 kills, and no errors, and also had three solo blocks. Lutkenhaus had 17 kills and 14 digs, and Caitlin Oshida added 11 digs. Carter had nine kills and Sarah Tighe added six more blocks for the Eagles, who will host Salisbury University on Wednesday night at 7 pm.

UMW Volleyball Falls at Marymount in CAC Action
>ARLINGTON, VA - The University of Mary Washington nearly defeated first place Marymount University on Wednesday night, but the Saints rallied for a 15-13 win in the fifth and deciding game to take a five-game win. Game scores were 27-30, 30-26, 30-28, 27-30, 15-13.
Kelley Hueber led UMW with 16 kills, and Anne Lutkenhaus added 14 kills. Lizzie Robey had eleven kills and three blocks, and Kaitlyn Butler added four service aces. The Eagles will compete at Messiah College on Saturday against the Falcons as well as Fairleigh Dickinson University.

UMW Volleyball Tops Lynchburg, 3-1

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team scored a four-game win over Lynchburg College on Thursday night at Goolrick Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 9-5 on the season.
The Eagles won the first game, 30-23, but fell in game two, 30-18. UMW rebounded to win the third, 30-19, and the fourth, 30-24. Sophomore Sarah Tighe led UMW with eleven kills and nine blocks. Kelley Hueber added 16 kills and four service aces, and freshman Lindsey Scott added 30 assists. Sam Harper had 14 digs for the Eagles, and Anne Lutkenhaus had nine kills.
UMW will return to action next Wednesday when they visit Marymount University at 7 pm.

UMW Volleyball Falls to Gallaudet, 3-0

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a three-game Capital Athletic Conference match to Gallaudet University on Wednesday night at Goolrick Gymnasium to fall to 8-5 overall on the season, and 0-2 in CAC play. The Bison improve to 9-2 and 2-0.
Mary Washington dropped the first game, 30-21, then fell, 30-24, in the second. Gallaudet led throughout the third game, a 30-21 win.
Mary Washington was led by Kelley Hueber and Kat Carter's five kills apiece. Carter also added three blocks. Sam Harper had eight digs for UMW, and Anne Lutkenhaus added six digs.
The Eagles will host Lynchburg College on Thursday at 7 pm in a nonconference match.

UMW Volleyball Wins Three to Claim CUA Guetle Invitational Title

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team rebounded from two earlier losses in the week by defeating Messiah College, Catholic University, and Trinity College in claiming the Guetle Invitational championship on Saturday at Catholic University. The Eagles improve to 8-4 on the season.
In the victory over Messiah, UMW won in three games, winning by scores of 30-20, 30-20, and 30-22. Sophomore Kelley Hueber, who was named the tournament MVP, had 19 kills and just one error in 41 attempts and nine digs, while freshman Anne Lutkenhaus added nine kills, eleven digs, and seven service aces. All-tournament team selection Lindsey Scott had 37 assists, six aces, and five digs, Sam Harper added 17 digs, and Johanna Carpenter scored six kills for the Eagles.
UMW went on to defeat Catholic, 19-30, 30-28, 30-27, 30-21 and then beat Trinity, 30-16, 30-13, 30-18. Hueber had 25 kills and 17 digs against Catholic, while Scott added 53 assists. Lutkenhaus scored 14 kills and 15 digs in the CUA match. Lizzie Robey led the Eagles against Trinity with six kills and no errors in 12 attempts. Rita Beale had 19 assists.
The Eagles will host Gallaudet University on Wednesday in Capital Athletic Conference action at 7 pm.

UMW Volleyball Falls in Four Games to Bridgewater
FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a four-game match to Bridgewater on Thursday evening to fall to 5-4 on the season.
The Eagles won the first game, 30-22, but Bridgewater regrouped to take the next three games, 30-23, 30-20, and 31-29. Sophomore Kelley Hueber led UMW with 15 kills and eleven digs, while freshman Anne Lutkenhaus added ten kills and 16 digs. Freshman Lindsey Scott had 30 assists, and Sam Haprper added a team-high 21 digs for UMW.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, when they compete at the Catholic University Invitational.

UMW Volleyball Falls in Five Games at York
YORK, PA - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped its opening Capital Athletic Conference match of the season in five games at York College on Wednesday night. The Eagles fall to 5-3 overall and 0-1 in CAC play, while York improves to 5-3 and 1-0.
The Eagles dropped the opening game, 30-22, then rebounded to take the second game, 30-27. The Spartans answered by winning game three, 31-29, but UMW forced a decisive game by winning the fourth, 30-24. York won the final game, 15-8.
Freshman Anne Lutkenhaus had 19 kills and 20 digs for the Eagles, and sophomore Kelley Hueber added 19 kills. Freshman Lindsey Scott had 55 assists and sophomore Sam Harper added 24 digs for the Eagles. Kat Carter and Sarah Tighe each had five blocks for the Eagles, who will host Bridgewater College on Thursday at 6:30 pm.

UMW Volleyball Takes 3rd at Muhlenberg Tourney; Scott Named to All-Tourney team

MUHLENBERG, PA - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team split its two matches in the championship round of the Buttermaker Tournament at Muhlenberg College on Saturday, finishing third due to tiebreakers, but finishing with a 3-1 mark for the event. Freshman setter Lindsey Scott was named to the all-tournament team.
The Eagles fell to Tufts College, 3-0, in the opener on Saturday. Game scores were 31-29, 30-27, 30-24. Scott had 39 assists in the match, while freshman Anne Lutkenhaus had 15 kills and 22 digs. Sophomore Kelley Hueber added 17 kills and ten digs, and Sam Harper had 21 digs.
The Eagles rebounded to top MIT, three games to two. Game scores were 20-30, 30-28, 30-27, 21-30, 15-11. Scott had 21 assists and nine digs and Lutkenhaus and Hueber each added 13 kils to lead UMW. Johanna Carpenter had eleven kills and just one error, and Sarah Tighe added nine kills and three solo blocks. Caitlin Oshida had 18 digs for the Eagles, who are now 5-2 on the season.
UMW will visit York College on Wednesday at 7 pm.

UMW Volleyball Advances to Championship Flight at Muhlenberg Tourney
MUHLENBERG, PA - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team won a pair of matches at the Buttermaker Tournament in Muhlenberg, PA, on Friday evening. The Eagles defeated Centenary in three games before topping the host school in thrilling fashion in five games after falling behind, two games to none.
Against Centenary, Anne Lutkenhaus scored twn kills and eleven service aces, Lizzie Robey added nine kills and seven digs, and Sam Harper added nine digs and six service aces. Freshman Lindsay Scott added 23 assists for the Eagles, who played without All-CAC sophomore Kelley Hueber, who was ill.
Hueber returned for the nightcap, and her 25 kills and 21 digs sparked the Eagles to a 3-2 win over the Mules, including a 44-42 win in game three. Harper had 26 digs, Lutkenhaus had 32 digs and 22 kills, and Sarah Tighe had 12 kills and six solo blocks. Johanna Carpenter had nine kills, and Scott scored 50 assists and seven service aces for the Eagles, who improve to 4-1 on the season.
UMW will return to action on day two of the Buttermaker Tournament on Saturday morning at 10 am.

UMW Volleyball Falls to VA Wesleyan, 3-1

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped its home opener to visiting Virginia Wesleyan College in four games at Goolrick Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Eagles drop to 2-1 on the season.
Freshman hitter Anne Lutkenhaus (Richmond, VA/Douglas Freeman) had a match-high 19 kills, and also added 16 digs, for the Eagles, and sophomore hitter Kelley Hueber (Grapevine, TX/Grapevine) added 15 kills. Sophomore libero Sam Harper registered 22 digs for UMW.
VA Wesleyan was led by Katie Heilenday's nine kills and Debbie Sterne's eight kills. UMW will compete in the Muhlenberg College tournament on Friday and Saturday.

UMW Volleyball Opens With Wins Over Cabrini, Washington MD

CHESTERTOWN, MD - University of Mary Washington sophomore Kelley Hueber (Grapevine, TX/Grapevine) scored eleven kills in each match, as the UMW volleyball team opened the 2006 season with a pair of wins, over Cabrini College and Washington College, in a trimatch on Saturday afternoon.
In the Eagles' first match, a 3-0 win over Cabrini, Hueber led the Eagles with eleven kills, while sophomore hitter Sarah Tighe (Fredericksburg, VA/Massaponax) had ten kills and three block assists. Sophomore setter Kaitlyn Butler (Seaford, NY/Seaford) made 28 assists, and sophomore libero Sam Harper (Charlottesville, VA/Western Albemarle) registered a team-high twelve digs. Sophomore Kat Carter (Moseley, VA/Midlothian) added six service aces for the Eagles. Game scores were 30-20, 30-25, 30-19.
In match two, the Eagles won again in three games, 30-19, 30-25, 30-25. Hueber led the way with eleven kills in 19 attempts. Butler had 31 assists and five digs, and senior Johanna Carpenter (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) added eight kills and nine digs.
The Eagles will make their home debut on Wednesday, when they host Virginia Wesleyan College at 6:30 pm.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington volleyball team's season-opening match at Hood College, scheduled for Friday night at 7 pm, has been cancelled, due to weather and Hood College's early afternoon closing. No makeup has been announced.
